A Message, Received Sometime Sunday Night

"Hello, my darling. So I was reading this book of worldwide poetry you left me - what a delightful way to learn more about this plane and you're exceedingly clever to have thought of it - when I stumbled upon this one and I just needed to share it with you."

The sound of movement through water, the clink of glass upon granite; Liliana was in her bathtub again, enjoying a bottle of wine, probably something light and sweet if Ignis were to guess (and guess correctly). The turn of a page, a soft hum as Liliana looked for what she wanted.

"Hunger, by Tejiro
There’s a scent in the air
Cinnamon, allspice and honey…
Or is that… molasses?
You’d think by now I could
easily identify that particular aroma…

I’ve tasted that aphrodisiac
so many times before
You, in my lungs
imprinted on my soul

I’ve inhaled and tasted
you ‘til I was dizzy
and wasted no opportunity
because the need of you
has taken me over
I have felt it many times
the need for more…

I have licked
and sucked
and bitten my way
from earlobe to
clavicle
Pectoralis major
and aureole
sternum
to obliques
and iliac crest…
Rectus abdominus
Transverse
to umbilicus
Skin smooth as satin,
meets silk covered steel
You have done the same
from jaw to aereole
Until I your touch
was all that was real

I know that scent
I feel that growl
in my heart and in yours
It’s a need never sated
food for our hearts

A hunger of our souls
"

More movement through water as the book was closed and the glass lifted for an almost-inaudible sip.

"Enjoy your vacation, darling."

Either the time difference was working in his favor, or perhaps Liliana was less in the mood to play games while being separated by over eighty-five hundred miles, but her reply came mere moments after his text.

"Oh, I've enjoyed several already. On various themes and topics, though that one was of...mmm, particular interest." She laughed, low and soft. "So of course, I had to share."

And, quickly thereafter,

"Do you have time for a call?"

And this time she didn't even give it a chance to register who the caller was; it had no more begun to make noise than she was answering it.

In deference to his schedule, of course. While talking to her clearly outweighed anything else he could have planned, it was polite of her to not let him miss dinner or whatever might be happening.

"Hello, my darling," she said. "How lovely to hear from you. I trust my poetry reading didn't interrupt anything too important?"

"My poor darling, you sound positively miserable about it, too," Liliana said with a laugh. "Though, I will admit, you don't strike me as a man who enjoys idleness overmuch - your willingness to entertain me being a most kind exception to the rule, of course. But, even if you can sometimes be entreated into idleness, I feel that laziness requires a much stronger enticement for it to hold any charm at all."

Ignore that noise that resulted from your use of her name, Ignis. It was nothing.

"Oh yes," Liliana said, because she was a lazy thing and didn't mind being called out for it. "I decided that today I got to be terribly maudlin for not going along and didn't bother getting dressed at all. I read and napped and ate decadent treats and drank wine and pouted when I wasn't otherwise occupied. I could pretend I was taking it easy recovering, but we both know better." She was allowed to admit it was a sulk, because obviously it was over the lack of opportunity, nothing else.

"I think tomorrow I might go and continue my sulk at the spa - saunas and steam baths and massages sound like just the thing to distract my lap from the lack of you. And you, my darling? What's on your agenda for tomorrow?"

He didn't say it quite as illegally as was his occasional wont, at least. But hey! That wasn't ignoring that sound at all.

"Dining, shopping, and wine do sound delightful, though," she noted. "And do you need a cellar to house your expanding collection, well, I'm willing to kindly offer you space in mine, so you needn't restrain yourself from indulging, my darling." As was also his usual wont, tsk.

She gave a thoughtful hum. "And is it lovely there? Who is describing the scenery to you? Are they doing a good job? All this poetry has me appreciating a good description even more than normal."
